Last night and early into the morning this morning, we got a terrible snow storm. It took Hubby 5 hours to get home from work, when it normally takes less than 1.5 hours. He did not even make it in to work today, so you know what that means?
Snow day!!! And how do you celebrate a snow day? By playing in the snow of course!
The snow was about up to Dexter's chest, and he was bounding all around. He loved every second!
Chloe was less impressed, as the snow was, no joke, over her head. Plus Dex kept rolling her in the snow. I am not sure who looked cuter, Chloe all covered in snow, or Hubby in his Pen jammie pants.
We did not stay out long, as little doggies get cold pretty quick, but Dexter packed plenty of enjoyment into the 5 minutes or so that we were out. Chloe, well, she just wanted a towel.

Dexter is a Steelers Fan!
Yesterday, Hubby was watching the Steelers game, so I sneaked upstairs to wrap his stocking stuffers.
When I came downstairs, he was lying on the couch, and Dex had joined him. He informed me that Dexter had jumped on the couch himself (that is his new thing) and sat there and watched the game with him, totally enchanted.
So, it looks like Dexter likes football. It was pretty adorable.

Look at what we got!
We went to visit my family this weekend to help celebrate Hubby's birthday, do some Labor Day celebrating, and see my sister's new house. Of course Dexter came with us, and was in his glory because he finally got to meet his Rottweiler cousin, Champ, and they are now best buds!
While we were there, my parents gave me and Hubby our anniversary gift a little early, since we do not get home too often. Being that this is our first anniversary, the traditional gift is paper, so we got a gift card to buy some books, and then, we got this:
Isn't that awesome?! We played it today! The game markers are little dog bowls.
Instead of properties, you buy dachshunds.
And you can add different dog toys to your doggies.
This game is perfect for us!
Even the card they got us was so perfect!
So, even though our anniversary is a month away, we got to start celebrating early. I love it! Thanks Mom and Dad, you know us so well!
We had a great weekend, Dex had a blast, but now it is sinking in that Summer is pretty much over. At least Hubby had a great birthday!

Pugmania!
Dexter got to attend his very first doggie event today, with Mommy and Daddy, what a fun way to celebrate Daddy's first furry Father's Day!
We found out about the event from our doggie cousin, Bella, who is a pug. The event was Pugmania, but all small breeds were welcome, so off we went.
Dex had a BLAST! We got him a toy, and a hat, and he got lots of snuggles and pets from everyone! He made so many new friends, and I am so impressed with how well behaved he was the whole time. We did not think we would stay long, but we ended up staying for 3 hours! Dex got to see a horse for the first time too! Dex was such a good boy, and he really tired himself out. He slept the whole way home!
I made two collages with some of the great pictures we got.
As you can see, a good time was had by all!

No more "Desperate Housecats"
For weeks now, we have been suffering with Nora being in and out of heat. She had two really bad cycles of it since we got Dexter. After the second cycle ended, she has been in a perpetual state of neediness that is a little easier for us to bear. Well, for most of us, all except for Hubby.
It seems Nora is in love with Hubby, and has made it her personal mission to seduce him. She follows him around, sleeps in the bed with him, prances around his desk when he is working on the computer. In short, she is all up in his face.
Case in point:

One night, Hubby and I were sitting on the couch, and he had his arm stretched along the back of the couch. Nora slinks up, and rests her paw on his hand, no joke. A few minutes later, she moves so that she is laying on his arm. Several minutes later, she is rubbing her face against his, and meowing in his ear (whispering sweet nothings I suppose). I jokingly said, "What is this, Desperate Housecats?".

Not only does her flirtatious behavior drive Hubby crazy, it really interferes with Nora's quality of life. When in the throes of heat, she does not eat or sleep properly, all she does is writhe on the floor and caterwaul. But all that ends today.
This morning, I dropped Nora off at our vet, to have her spayed. I get to call at 2 pm to see how she did, then she will come home tomorrow. We do not want any kittens right now, and it is so much better for her health. She will calm down as well, and allow Hubby to have some personal space, because right now, she even follows him in to the bathroom. Even Mommy doesn't do that.

Rita's Reward
Dexter has been doing so good lately with all the crate training. Hardly any accidents in the crate in the past 10 days, and I have had to leave him several times for 2-3 hours.
Today I left to get my hair cut and colored, fully expecting an accident when I got home. But, nope, he held it, and had a clean crate. We just put bells on our door to help teach him to signal when he needs to go out, so that when he is having time out of the crate, he can learn to tell us when the need arises.
I am so proud of him, and I just love showing him off, so after dinner tonight, Hubby took me and Dexter on a car ride to Rita's.
When we got up to the window, the girl asked if Dexter could have come vanilla custard, so of course I said yes.
As you can see, he loved it.

The girl at the window served us and was oohing and ahhing over him, and (about his dappled coat) remarked "You are so cute, you look just like a cow".
After getting a belly fully of Rita's, he kind of did.

Snips and Snails...
I have been married to Hubby for 6 months. Before that, we dated for 16 months. Before that we were friends for over 2.5 years. Of that cumulative time of almost 4.5 years, I have been asking him to get me a dog for probably 4.25 years. Sometimes, especially during the friend years, I was mostly kidding. But once we started dating, I legitimately began begging for a dog.
So, when, a few months ago, we began seriously talking about getting a puppy, and looking at a breeder, I was ecstatic. I promised that I would take care of the dog, since I am not working, and I would be the one responsible for the training.
When my husband finally agreed that the timing was right, I knew he was probably doing it just for me. He was so totally not going to be this dog. Or so I thought.
The moment Dexter got into our car, Hubby was in love. He becomes a big ball of goo when he gets home from work and hears little paw prints coming to greet him at the door, or sees me and Dex snoozing on the couch. And his love of the dog has increased his love for the cat too.
I was shocked and amazed, until I realized, it was just part of his make up. After all, as the old nursery rhyme says:

What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails
That's what little boys are made of !
